Winter Wildlife Photo Expedition

This extraordinary photo expedition into Western Mongolia and the Kharkhira mountain range features some of Mongolia’s rarest wildlife. Focused on the high Altai mountains where glaciers loom above rocky slopes, the trip is scheduled in February when Snow Leopards abandon their usual caution and roam more openly, seeking mates during the mating season. With the support of local rangers who cooperate in Snow Leopard conservation with the World Wildlife Fund project in Uvs province, and one of Mongolia’s top Snow Leopard trackers, this trip gives you distinct prospects for spotting the rare and solitary Snow Leopard. In the Altai range which runs north to south through Russia, Mongolia and China, it is estimated that approximately 1500 Snow Leopards remain, of which almost 70 inhabit the mountains on Mongolian territory. While it is impossible to guarantee that we will see Snow Leopards, this trip is designed to maximize our chances. Ibex, Argali, Grey Wolf, and other species, as well as large birds of prey, are to be seen in abundance.
