Trip Information - The Ancient Capital - Kharkhorin

Day 1. Ulaanbaatar/Hustain Nuruu (B,L,D)
On the first day we travel to Hustaiin Nuruu National Park. The park was established as part of a unique project to reintroduce the world’s last surviving wild horses back to their natural environment. On the brink of extinction during the last century, only a very few Takhi or Przewalski’s horse were left in zoos around Europe. This graceful steppe horse was returned to Mongolia, and today, thanks to this special project, two herds again roam the Mongolian steppes. Overnight in a ger camp.

Day 2. Hustain Nuruu/Kharkhorin (B,L,D)
Built by order of Chinggis Khan and completed by his son Ogedei about 800 years ago, Kharkhorin, better known as Karakorum, was famed throughout Asia as the capital of the Mongol Empire. Within the walls of this spectacular city kings were chosen, laws made and the fate of the next city to be conquered were determined. You will visit the ruins of the old city, the Erden Zuu monastery and other historical monuments in the area. Overnight in a ger camp by the Orhon River.

Day 3. Kharkhorin/Elsiin Tasarhai (B,L,D)
Marking the northern edge of the great Gobi Desert, Elsiin Tasarhai is a sand dune that stretches over 130 km north into the heart of Central Mongolia. In the morning we can take an easy hike around Jaakhan Lake, a great place to see numerous species of birds, then have lunch at the ger camp. In the afternoon we will visit the ruins of the Two Lams Temple, which has both a glorious and frightening history. Overnight at a ger camp in the Mongol Els.

Day 4. Elsiin Tasarhai/Ulaanbaatar (B,L,D)
Today we drive back to the city, arriving in the late afternoon. Dinner in a restaurant and overnight in 4 star hotel.

Day 5. Departure (B)
Transfer to the airport for your departing flight.
