Western Mongolia Cultural Adventure with Solar Eclipse

Designed with the adventurous traveler in mind, this trip features the breathtaking mountains of Mongolia's western-most province. We visit the glaciers of Tsambagarav Mountain, a protected area that is home to snow leopards and other wildlife including Argali sheep and Ibex, then continue to our eclipse camp on Dayan Lake passing through the open valleys of Bayan Olgii province. Our viewing location at N 48° 27.714' E 88° 52.82 is just six kilometers north of our campsite near the lake. After eclipse day we will visit a Kazakh eagle trainer and watch how he trains his hunting eagles, as well as Shiveet Khairkhan, a mountain sacred to the Tuvans who live across the Russian border. They celebrate their ancestral rites here, leaving behind each year stone tables and rock paintings in a tradition that reaches back beyond recorded history. Our last stop at Altan Tavan Bogd mountain, gives us a view of the five holy peaks, including Friendship Peak where the borders of Mongolia, Russia, and China meet and Khuiten, the tallest in Mongolia. Cloud cover percentages over the northern end of the Altai Mountain range in Western Mongolia offer possibilities of observing the eclipse with 50% and better chances of clear skies.
